Lech Wałęsa received the news about the death of George H. W. Bush with great sadness. In his statement president Wałęsa reffered to the engagement of president George H. W. Bush in the fight with communism in Europe and his support for Poland during that time:

"I received with great sadness the news about the death of Poland's Great Friend, President George Bush. He was the only one of the world leaders at the time who did much to overcome communism and help Poland. It will be remain forever in hearts and memory.
